Welcome to Long Eaton Swimming Club, a competitive swimming club for all levels and abilities, providing teaching and competition for swimmers aged 5+ years. Ø Who are we? Although only formed in 2007,we are one of the biggest swimming clubs in Derbyshire. We have a swimming pedigree going back 30 years through the clubs which amalgamated to form the current club. We can boast County, Midland Area and National Champions amongst our members and we have teams in several leagues including the National Speedo League. Ø What ages do we work with? We work with swimmers from 5 to 65 years and over:- age is no bar in swimming. We can also accommodate swimmers with disabilities. We are proud of of reputation in helping athletes of all ages achieve their individual potential through discipline and hard work. Ø Can you help me gain qualifications? Yes - we run a subsidised training programme for gaining qualifications. From age 14, you can become a poolside helper and work through the ASA programme for teaching and coaching. We also have links to life guarding programmes. Ø How do I get involved? Come along to West Park Leisure Centre on the first Sunday of each month for a free swimming trial. Click here for the Long Eaton Swimming Club Homepage Archive Hot from the Press . . . . . . 15/12/09 - Derbyshire Long Course Championships At the recent Derbyshire Long Course Championships, Long Eaton Swimming Club climbed to the dizzy heights of second in the medal table at the event held at Sheffield’s Pond’s Forge International Pool. This is the club’s best ever position, despite being without a number of senior swimmers. The 14 Gold , 11 Silver and 14 Bronze medals were won across all the age groups. Particularly strong were the nine year old boys, with Joshua Langfield winning two gold medals and a bronze, Corbin Archer took gold, with silver for Matthew Cartwright and Jamie Spencer-Pickup and bronze for Joshua Bestwick. Twelve year old Oliver Davidson took three golds and a silver from his four events. For fifteen year old Sam Parker it was two silvers and a bronze, and in the Open Mens’ events it was silver for David Sankey, and a bronze each for Callum Henley and Greg Cherry. Leading the way for the girls was sixteen year old Ellis-Jay Middleton with three golds and a silver, with team mate Katherine Williamson taking a silver and three bronzes. In the nine year old girls it was gold for Connie Jackson and Imogen Marshall, with a bronze also for Connie. Tyler-Anne Black and Josephine Parker swimming in the twelve year old events took silver and two bronzes and a silver and one bronze respectively. Fourteen year olds, Hannah Cox and Jessica Walker, each won a gold with another bronze for Jess. Club Captain, fifteen year old Aimee Baxter, made it a full set of gold, silver and bronze. County swim-hats, the Award for finishing 4th, 5th or 6th also went to Joshua Langfield , Jamie Spencer-Pickup, Imogen Marshall, Elle Pryce, William Barker, Oliver Severn, Chantelle Ridgway, Tyler-Anne Black, Hannah Cox, Aimee Baxter, Sam Parker and Jacob Shaw. Chief Coach, Dave Sankey, said ‘There were many other fantastic swims during the day, and swimmers just outside the top six were taking huge chunks off their previous best times. I was particularly pleased to see so many younger swimmers competing and swimming fast at this level, as it shows the new club structure implemented at Long Eaton, particularly in Learn to Swim and the Development and Junior Squads over the past couple of years is working well. 24/11/09 - National Masters Report
Long Eaton swimmers Aimee Baxter, Jess Walker
and Callum Henley put in some excellent early season performances at the
recent Midland Short Course Championships in Corby. Chief Coach, Dave Sankey, said that the Swimmers in the LESC Elite Squad now train for a minimum of 12 hours a week and have all made a big step up in their commitment this season. These results represent just the tip of the iceberg, and are a testament to the swimmers' hard work in recent weeks, and he is confident that in the next twelve months there will be more swimmers achieving Midland and National Championship Qualifying Times This weekend there were two teams in action in the National Arena League. The A Team swam in the First Division at Nuneaton, where new club records were achieved by Oliver Davidson (100m Breaststroke), Josephine Parker (100m Backstroke) and Dave Sankey (100m Breastroke) and were just three of the many highlights for the team in a very competitive gala. Chief Coach Dave Sankey said “the team showed a fantastic toughness beyond that that I have seen in any club gala to date, and this was rewarded with Personal Best times throughout the gala, right up to the final relays”. Against strong competition, including City of Derby and Calverton teams consisting of many swimmers from the Derventio and Nova performance squads, the team held their own and were rewarded with a 4th place finish’. The B Team were in action nearer home at Ilkeston, in the Third Division where they finished fifth in a keenly fought contest. With several swimmers having to swim up in age everyone performed well and the three wins on the night coming from the Open Age Group - Andy Noyes in the Individual Medley and Liz Simpson in Butterfly, with the Ladies Open Freestyle relay of Liz, Laura Marinelli, Keeley Musslewhite and Harriet Barker finishing with a flourish right at the end. 15/11/09 - National Masters Report Swimmers from Long Eaton Swimming Club were in action at the ASA Masters National Championships at Ponds Forge at Sheffield on the weekend of 7/8th Nov 09. Helen Akers (35-39 age group), recently back from Cadiz where she won silver and bronze medals in the European Championships, maintained this form by winning gold in the 100m and 200m freestyle events, and a silver in the 50m freestyle, in a new lifetime best time. Catherine Stray (45-49) swam to third place and bronze medal in the 200m backstroke with Elizabeth Simpson (35-39) also taking a bronze in 100m butterfly. Both Catherine and Elizabeth have benefited from the recent restructuring of the squads within the Club, which has allowed them to increase their training hours. Senior Coach, Spencer George, was pleased with the results and said that this was no less than the ladies deserved for the commitment they have shown to the new training schedules. 14/10/09 - European Masters Report Helen Akers has recently returned from Spain where she competed in the Twelfth European Masters Swimming Championships in Cadiz. Four thousand swimmers from all over Europe attended this event. Helen swimming in the 35 –39 years age group returned home with two medals, silver for the 100m and bronze for the 200m freestyle event |
