08/08/11 - Aldershot Masters meet
Masters Swimmers from Long Eaton Swimming Club travelled to Aldershot for their final meet of the season and for Rebecca Fox the journey was well worth it. Rebecca (pictured) achieved a long course British and European record in the 50m freestyle which had stood since the early 90s, and a British record in the 100metres freestyle.
For Helen Akers and Elizabeth Simpson who swim with Rebecca in the Club’s Senior Squad there were more gold medals in the 100m freestyle in their age groups and the 50metres freestyle for Helen and in the 50metres butterfly for Liz.
Together with Laura Marinelli from the Club’s Masters Squad, they took gold in both Medley and Freestyle relays.
Lisa Tidman and Fiona Starbuck were swimming in their first Masters competition and Lisa achieved a gold medal (50metre Butterfly) and bronze (50 metres freestyle). Fiona joined Lisa, Dave Akers and Colin Prescott to take bronze medals in both their relays.
Colin Prescott won gold in both the 50 metres and 100 metre freestyle. Maggi Tuck took silver in the 50 metres backstroke and freestyle and the Masters Coach, Dave Akers won the 50 metres breaststroke.

23/07/11 - British Gas Masters and Senior Age Group Championships
Long Eaton Swimming Club had just five Ladies at the British Gas Masters and Senior Age Group Championships at the John Charles Sports Centre in Leeds this weekend but they came away with two British records and a fine assortment of medals.
This long course event saw the team of Rebecca Fox, Laura Marinelli, Elizabeth Simpson and Helen Akers (pictured above) set a new British record in the Ladies 4x200 metres freestyle relay in the 120+ age group, with Rebecca, swimming the first leg also setting a new British Record for the 200 freestyle in her 30-34 years age group.
Rebecca continues to build on her earlier successes this season, taking Gold in both the 100 and 200 metres freestyle individual events.
Elizabeth Simpson (35-39 age group) took silver in the 400 freestyle and 200 individual medley, Helen Akers (40-45 age group) took silver in the 100 freestyle, bronze in the 200 freestyle and came fourth in the 50 freestyle, with Maggi Tuck (45-49 age group) coming in sixth in the 50m backstroke.
Dave Akers, recently appointed Masters’ Coach, who accompanied the team, said that he hopes these result encourage more of his Squad to enter competitions, and he is confident that more National Records are within their grasp.
Club Coach, Spencer George who coaches three of the victorious relay squad in his Youth and Senior Squad says that these Ladies, all of whom work and two of them having young children, are an example to the rest of the Squad with their dedication and hard work in training .
23/07/11 - Derbsyhire & Nottinghamshire Junior League 2nd Round result
Long Eaton swimmers put in a strong performance to produce a convincing A Team win in the second round of the 2011 Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Junior League held at Derby’s Queen’s Leisure Centre, on Saturday. With a win in the first round, this result takes them into the League Final, to be held in September.
Winners on the night, swimming in the 12/under age group were Elle Pryce (50 metres Butterfly, Backstroke, Freestyle) and George Barker (50 metres Breaststroke). It was a clean sweep in the 11/under age group, with wins coming from Imogen Marshall (50 metres Breaststroke), Francesca Muir-Harris (50 metres Freestyle) Joshua Langfield (50 metres Butterfly) and Matthew Cartwright (50 metres Backstroke) Jarred Archer also won the 10/under 50 metres Breaststroke.
Along with the successful relay squad this was a solid team performance.
Also in action were the B Team, swimming at Eckington, and this saw 9 year old Jennibel Hampson win the 25 metres Breaststroke.
