21/07/10 - British Sprint Triathlon Championships

Long Eaton Swimming Club senior swimmer and Coach, Greg Cherry, has earned a place at the 2010 Triathlon World Championships in Budapest in September, after competing in the British Sprint Triathlon Championships at Emberton Park, near Milton Keynes. There were 650 competitors in the event which consisted of a 750metre open water swim, a 20 kilometre cycle ride, finishing with a 5 kilometre run.  Greg completed this gruelling event in a time of 1 hour 3 minutes and 27 seconds, finishing in 33rd place, but, more importantly, 7th in his own Age group category, gaining one of the twelve places to represent Great Britain in Budapest.

The swim will take place in a bay off the river Danube with the bike race on a closed section of highway around the city, before then running along the Danube, crossing a bridge and finishing in the centre of Budapest.

09/07/10 - 2010 Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Junior League 3rd and Final Rounds

Long Eaton swimmers put in a dominant performance to produce a convincing win in the third and Final round of the 2010 Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Junior League held at Bramcote. With 22 wins and 30 points clear of the next team, the honours were spread right across the age groups.

For those swimming in the twelve year age group it was their final time representing the Club in this league and they will be missed next year.  Leading by example, Junior Club Captain, Oliver Davidson, won all of his permitted individual events and joined by Gabriel Calland, who also won the individual backstroke, and Matthew Groves with Jacob Hunt in the freestyle and William Barker in the Medley  they powered to victory in both their relay events.

For the twelve year old girls, Beatrice Roberts took two individual events and was joined by Bethanie Dennis, Lucy Parsons and Chantelle Ridgway to win both their relay events. Elle Pryce, swimming up an age group won the eleven year girl backstroke as well as in her own ten year old age group. With teammates Imogen Marshall and Francesca Harris, who had individual event wins too, they were joined by Lydia Marshall to win both their relays as did the boys of the same age group. With individual wins for Matthew Cartwright and Corbin Archer, they were then joined by Joshua Bestwick and Alex Baxter for the team events.

For the nine year olds it was Jared Archer with one and Jamie Spencer Pickup with two wins. The Cannon relay resulted in a comfortable win in the final event of the evening with one boy and one girl from each age group making up the team. Nine year old Bethany Sharples and eleven year old Bethany Sharlples joined with swimmers who had already won during the evening, Jamie, Mathew William, Oliver, Elle and Beatrice.

The B Team were swimming at Eckington, where the sole winner on the night was Leah Foss swimming in the eleven year old backstroke. There were, however, many personal best times recorded for the team and with Long Eaton being the only club putting out two teams in this league, the Chief Coach congratulated all the swimmers who have swum over the three rounds for their commitment and enthusiasm and he expects several of them to be competing for a place in the A team next year.
